Frequently Asked Questions

The Ausangate Trek 4 Days with Rainbow Mountain typically includes transportation from Cusco to the trailhead, a professional trekking guide, meals during the trek, camping equipment, and camping accommodation. The itinerary features spectacular Andean landscapes, glacial lakes, snow-capped mountains, and a visit to the famous Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca). Inclusions may vary depending on the tour package, so we recommend checking the services included before booking.

The Ausangate Trek 4 Days is considered a challenging hike due to its high altitude, steep mountain passes, and long walking days. Some sections of the route reach elevations above 5,000 meters (16,400 feet) above sea level. We recommend spending a few days acclimatizing in Cusco before starting the trek and maintaining a steady pace throughout the journey. Weather conditions and individual fitness levels can also affect the difficulty of the experience.

The total hiking distance for the Ausangate Trek 4 Days varies depending on the route and campsite locations. The trek generally involves several days of walking through high-altitude valleys, mountain passes, and glacial lake areas before reaching Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca). Daily distances and hiking times may change according to weather, trail conditions, and the itinerary selected by your tour operator. Contact KAMASKI TRAVEL for details about the exact route and estimated distances.

We recommend packing sturdy hiking boots, warm layered clothing, a waterproof jacket and trousers, thermal layers, gloves, a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, a reusable water bottle, and personal toiletries. A comfortable daypack is essential for carrying water, snacks, and other items needed during the hike. Temperatures can drop significantly at night and at high mountain passes, so proper cold-weather clothing is important. Check your tour operator's equipment list before departure.

The best time to do the Ausangate Trek with Rainbow Mountain is generally during the dry season, from May to September. During these months, rainfall is usually lower, and visibility is often better for enjoying the surrounding mountains and colorful landscapes. June, July, and August are popular months for trekking, although temperatures can be very cold, especially at night. The rainy season, typically from November to March, may bring muddy trails, reduced visibility, and more challenging hiking conditions. Mountain weather can change quickly at any time of year, so preparation is essential.
